Management Notification: Keep management informed of all significant safety development –for example, the status of New Global Standards, implementation of new policies, any other serious safety issues or opportunities for improvement in the safety program.
Training: Establish the annual training schedule and ensure the attendance is accurately tracked and follow-up training is presented to those who missed the scheduled training. All mandatory trainings will be included and will be posted on the employee safety bulletin board. The training schedule will identify the individual responsible to present the training. Assist management in making sure that the appropriate safety rules are developed, communicated, and understood by all employees. Assist in training efforts with project Team Leaders on safety and environmental aspects. Proactively communicate all related safety and environmental requirements to facility personnel.
Meetings: Attend the applicable safety and or environmental meetings as deemed necessary by management. i.e. the monthly AES WG Safety Coordinators conference call, the site’s Safety Committee meeting, . In the absence, assure site is represented.
Incident Management: Establish and monitor a program for reporting and conducting investigations on employee suggestions and complaints, incidents, near-misses and injuries ensuring that root causes are identified. Lead or organize investigation team as needed per SMS guidelines or site decision.
AES Online: Ensure the monthly safety statistics (including incident reports) are entered into the AES On-line tool and reported to the Wind Generation Safety Manager by the 3rd of every month.
Audits: Be familiar with the Environmental Health and Safety audit protocols and assist the audit team during a site audit. Assist as needed on the volunteer audit team for internal audits within AES Wind Generation.
Inspections: Organize periodic walk-through inspections of all workplace facilities. Ensure quarterly “House Keeping” inspections are complete. Ensure periodic inspections of all motorized vehicles. (Daily inspection prior to departure is required). Ensure that all site inspections and testing requirements are met per site EMS, SMS, and SPCC, etc.
Policies & Procedures: Maintain the Safety Manual by assuring new or revised policy/procedures are updated. Assume ownership of the Safety Management System (SMS) and the Environmental Management System (EMS). Assist management in making sure that the appropriate safety rules are developed, communicated, and understood by all employees. Assist with the site Risk Assessment (RA) to assure it is maintained and up-to-date and Job Safety Analysis (JSA) are created and updated as necessary. Ensure Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) are kept current, either in hard copy or electronic form, for all chemical materials used in the specific departments. Oversee proper maintenance of safety and health records including, but not limited to, periodic inspections, accident investigations and corrective action documents.
Visitors/Contractors: Prepare New Hire Safety Orientation package and if necessary delegate the appropriate individual(s) to execute training component(s). Coordinate/delegate to assure all aspects of the Contractor Policy is properly implemented
Other: Assist management to assure required Safety Walks are performed monthly. Participate in developing and managing the facility Safety and Environmental budget. Administer the facility fire protection system testing program.
High School diploma required with an advanced technical discipline.
3 to 5 years working with or creating safety procedures, is strongly preferred.
OSHA 40-hour certification and NFPA training, a plus
